A gang of gunmen has killed one person and abducted 11 others, including three nursing mothers and their infants, in a fresh attack that has heightened insecurity concerns in Kaduna State.
The deceased, Joseph Simon, and the abductees, Deborah David and her infant, Rejoice Jonathan and her infant, Deborah Aminu and her infant, Loise Geoffrey, Gerard Geoffrey, Mercy Timothy, Jummai Sunday and Wisdom Doctor, were ambushed by the terrorists who fired gunshots killing the former as well as taking others away from the scene.
It was gathered that the attack occurred on Sunday in Ungwan Atiku village, located in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, as informed by the former media aide to the late Kaduna State Governor, Patrick Yakowa, Reuben Buhari, who confirmed that the incident, on Wednesday, and said the attackers invaded the community, opened fire on residents and forcefully took away 11 people.
Meanwhile, the abduction of the nursing mothers alongside their babies has raised fresh concerns about the welfare of vulnerable victims in captivity, the residents expressing anxiety over the conditions the women and children may face while in the hands of their abductors.
Furthermore, they noted that the latest incident occurred while community leaders and families were still making efforts to secure the freedom of several other residents kidnapped in earlier attacks across Southern Kaduna.
Attempts to obtain an official reaction from the Kaduna State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, did not respond to telephone calls seeking comments on the incident.
