GOV. Ademola Adeleke of Osun has warned residents against street trading on the newly constructed flyover and its underpass in the state.
Adeleke issued the warning on Wednesday during the inauguration of the Lameco Flyover in Osogbo.
He also cautioned against vandalising the railings and installed lighting facilities, urging residents to keep the infrastructure clean and preserve it for future generations.
“Our drivers and commuters must drive responsibly. This flyover was built to save lives, not to endanger them,” he said.
The governor noted that the project was part of his administration’s commitment to rebuilding the state through infrastructure that impacts all aspects of life.
“We implemented this and other mega projects in line with due process and transparency, without mortgaging the future of our children.
“The high quality of this flyover confirms the viability of our local content model. We have demonstrated that our local engineers can deliver to world-class standards.
“The Lameco Flyover is proof that when resources and people are well managed, good governance is the outcome,” he added.
Adeleke further disclosed that his administration had completed over 27 kilometres of intra-city roads in Osogbo and more than 300 kilometres of roads across the state.
“We have over 10 mega projects completed and ready for inauguration. We are positively impacting major towns under our policy of equity and fairness in infrastructure development,” he said.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Mr Idowu Bello, said the flyover has a total length of 672 metres, including retaining walls. It features dual carriageways measuring 5.5 metres each, separated by a Jersey barrier median.
Bello added that the facility is equipped with solar-powered streetlights, traffic signals, cat-eye road markers and reflective studs to enhance visibility and improve road safety.
He noted that all construction materials were sourced locally, while the engineers, artisans and labourers engaged on the project were residents of the state, with no expatriates involved from start to completion.
Also speaking, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Teslim Igbalaye, said the flyover would ease traffic congestion, particularly during peak periods in the area.
Igbalaye commended the governor for fulfilling his promises and prioritising projects that improve residents’ welfare.
Earlier, the Ataoja of Osogboland, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, praised the governor for delivering on his promise to the people of Osogbo through the completion of the project.
Oba urged him to sustain the pace of infrastructural development to benefit residents, business owners, motorists, civil servants and traditional institutions across the state.(NAN)
