A gang of armed men has killed an erstwhile Chief Security Officer of a local government in Rivers State, Letman Kine, after an attack by the gunmen on his community.
The attackers were said to have opened fire on the deceased, causing his death, as well as causing fearful atmosphere on residents, some who fled into bushes to ensure their safety.
The death of Kine, of the Bori headquarters, in Khana Local Government, which happened yesterday, was said to have halted social and business activities, with shop owners hurriedly closing their bsinesses, many residents opining that the clash was from a cultist group.
Executive Chairman of the area, Thomas Barierie, said termed the killing as senseless and act of violence, so was the Director of Press and Public Communication of the local government, Barry Neemena, who described the murder act as inhumane and lawless.
Bariere expressed deep concern that the killing comes barely weeks after the tragic murder one Clement Deegbara of the Kpong Community, noting that the repeated attacks point to the activities of armed criminal gangs determined to undermine the peace and security of Khana.
He called on all security agencies to intensify their operations across the Local Government Area in their investigation and ensure that those behind these heinous crimes are swiftly brought to justice.
The council boss reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that justice is served and that every lawful measure is taken to safeguard the lives of the people of Khana.
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Blessing Agabe, confirmed the incident saying that the deceased’s body had been deposited in a morgue.
“Our men are there, patrols are ongoing in the area, and an investigation is underway to ensure the arrest of the perpetrators,” Agabe said
