The police in Gambia have arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian man, Audu Williams, for interrogation over situations surrounding his girlfriend’s death, whose body was found in a bush in an area of the country.
The security agency informed that Audu was invited for questioning after which he confessed to killing the deceased who has been identified simply as Esther Tango, a 41-year-old, also a Nigerian.
In a released statement yesterday, the law enforcing arm disclosed that its operatives used witness interviews, crime scene examination to identify William as a suspect of the crime, after which his confessions led to the body of the victim being found between Kitty and Siffoe villages in the West Coast Region.
‘”The victim was positively identified as Esther Tango, a 41-year-old Nigerian national, following intensive investigations by detectives of the Suba Ward CID Unit, supported by the Crime Scene Investigation Team,” the police statement reads.
“Her identity was confirmed after investigators recovered her Nigerian passport during a search of her residence in Brikama. During the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to the offence. Preliminary findings indicate that he allegedly lured the deceased to Kitty on the night of July 6, 2026, where the fatal incident occurred before abandoning her body at the scene,” the statement added.
The police relayed that the suspect is in custody and would be charged and prosecuted in accordance with the laws of The Gambia upon the conclusion of the investigation
