Victor Osimhen’s chances of becoming Galatasaray’s next captain have come under scrutiny after Turkish football analyst Bülent Timurlenk argued that the Nigerian striker’s emotional reactions during matches could count against him despite his impressive performances.
The discussion comes as Galatasaray prepare to appoint a new captain ahead of the new season following Mauro Icardi’s departure. Osimhen and Turkish defender Abdülkerim Bardakcı are among the leading contenders for the armband.
Timurlenk acknowledged that Osimhen has earned respect through his performances but believes leadership requires more than football ability.
Speaking to Turkish outlet Sabah, the pundit said the striker’s body language and occasional difficulty controlling his emotions when dealing with referees, opponents and, at times, teammates could make him a less suitable choice for the role.
He described Osimhen as a player who competes with passion but suggested that his emotional approach on the pitch could be a challenge for someone expected to lead the team.
Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has previously praised the Nigerian international’s leadership qualities, saying he has the attributes to help fill the leadership vacuum left by Icardi.
Bardakcı also remains a strong candidate after wearing the captain’s armband on several occasions during the previous campaign.

The striker was absent from Galatasaray’s opening pre-season friendly, where the Turkish champions recorded a comfortable 5-1 victory over Ümraniyespor. Attention will now turn to who the club officially names as captain before the new season begins.
