The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has expanded its strategic partnerships at both regional and national levels, signing a five year Memorandum of Understanding with the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA).
The FRSC also secured a collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to deepen professionalism, capacity development and institutional excellence.
The twin engagements, held at the FRSC National Headquarters in Abuja as stated in a statement signed by Corps spokesperson,
Osondu Ohaeri on Friday .
He said the engagements underscore the Corps’ commitment to strengthening road safety administration through international cooperation, knowledge sharing and continuous human capital development.
He said the MoU with the SLRSA establishes a framework for collaboration in road safety m 00anagement, research, data driven policy formulation, vehicle administration, enforcement, innovation and capacity building.
. The agreement is expected to enhance coordinated efforts to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities across West Africa while advancing the Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, the Executive Director of SLRSA, Mr. James Bagie Bio, described the agreement as a defining milestone in the relationship between both institutions. He commended the operational excellence, professionalism and technological advancement of the FRSC under the leadership of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed and pledged Sierra Leone’s commitment to ensuring the agreement translates into measurable road safety outcomes.
“This MoU will not gather dust on the shelf,” he said, assuring that structured implementation, institutional engagement and regular progress evaluation would drive the partnership.
Also speaking, the Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Nigeria and Deputy Head of Mission to ECOWAS, Major General (Rtd.) Dauda Alpha, praised the remarkable transformation of the FRSC, describing the Corps as a continental reference point for road safety administration. He said the partnership would strengthen regional integration and collective efforts to safeguard lives on African roads.
In a related development, the President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal, where he commended the FRSC for its institutional transformation, particularly the digitisation of its operations and improvements in service delivery.
Dr. Neliaku described the Corps’ achievements as evidence of visionary leadership and innovation, reaffirming the Institute’s readiness to partner with the FRSC in executive education, professional training and capacity building to consolidate its transformation agenda.
Responding, the Corps Marshal expressed appreciation for the recognition, stressing that professionalism, continuous learning and strategic communication remain central to his vision of building a responsive and globally respected road safety institution.
He described the proposed collaboration with the NIPR as a strategic investment in human capital that would equip personnel with the knowledge, skills and ethical orientation required to meet the evolving demands of public service.
Both organisations agreed to establish a structured framework for sustained collaboration, focusing on staff training, professional certification, knowledge exchange and other mutually beneficial initiatives.
The two engagements reinforce the FRSC’s ongoing drive to strengthen institutional capacity, expand strategic partnerships and position the Corps as a leading road safety institution in Africa through innovation, professionalism and regional cooperation.
