The federal government has extended the implementation of its Green Hope Project to Kwara state beginning with a three day intensive training to equip over 700 women with modern skills in tomato and pepper production.
The project, earlier flag off in Odogbolu, Ogun state is targeting 5, 000 women in 38 locations across Nigeria and it also includes provisions of farm inputs, technical and financial supports to equip beneficiaries with capacities for modern vegetable production.
The capacity building programme is organised by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) under the (Phase III – Open-Field Horticulture) of the federal government’s Green Hope Project and is holding at the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), in Ilorin
In Kwara state, the over 700 all women beneficiaries were drawn from horticulture clusters in Iponrin, Tsaragi, Asa, Oke Onigbin, Ijara Isin, Esie, Ilale and Moro for the training taking place at ARMTI.
The capacity- building programme is organised by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) at the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), Ilorin.
Speaking at the ceremony, the executive secretary and chief executive officer of NALDA, Cornelius Olusegun Adebayo, said the initiative was designed to equip women with the skills, infrastructure and support needed to venture into commercial production of tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables.
He said the programme forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at achieving food security, creating sustainable livelihoods and making agriculture a major driver of economic growth.
