FIFA has confirmed that England’s Round of 16 clash against Mexico at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will kick off as originally scheduled on Sunday despite concerns over forecast storms in Mexico City.
Reports had suggested the match at the Estadio Azteca could be moved from 6:00 p.m. local time to midday due to the threat of heavy rain and flooding.

However, a source familiar with the discussions said no decision was ever taken to alter the kickoff time, and the match will proceed as planned.
Speaking ahead of the game, England forward Marcus Rashford said the team was prepared to adapt if any changes were made.
“How we prepare for the game has to remain the same. We have to be focused and ready for anything,” Rashford said.
He added that England’s players and staff were prepared to handle whatever challenges arose as they seek a place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
