Eight suspected kidnappers who were arrested by the security agencies during the rescue of the kidnapped school children and teachers from Oyo State school have been held in custody of the Department of Security Services, DSS, in the aim to unravel situations surrounding the unfortunate incident.
In a statement shared by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the security operatives nabbed the terrorists while others were killed during the operation.
The circular dismissed reports suggesting that the government negotiated with the abductors or released any detainee in exchange for the victims’ freedom
According to Onanuga, one of the kidnappers’ key demands was the release of a terrorist kingpin currently facing prosecution, but the request was vehemently rejected.
“There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities,” Onanuga stated, adding that the security agencies would provide a comprehensive account of the rescue operation in due course
“In the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised. There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities,” Onanuga stated
