Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested former Minister of Science and Technology, Geoffrey Uchechukwu Nnaji, over allegations of certificate forgery before handing him over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for further investigation.
Nnaji was arrested on Wednesday morning at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu while preparing to board a private jet bound for Abuja, according to security sources.
The sources said the arrest was carried out by DSS operatives at the request of the ICPC, which is investigating the former minister following allegations of certificate forgery.
According to the sources, the anti-graft agency had previously invited Nnaji on several occasions in connection with petitions bordering on the management of the Ministry during his tenure. However, after he allegedly failed to honour the invitations, the ICPC sought the assistance of the DSS to effect his arrest.
Following the operation, Nnaji was handed over to the ICPC, which is expected to continue its investigation into the allegations.
The former minister resigned from office in October last year under circumstances that generated public attention.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the ICPC had issued an official statement on the arrest or the allegations against the former minister.
