The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 61-year-old woman, Modupe Oladele, following a gun duel against an armed group in the area.
The armed men broke into Oladele’s residence and abducted her after which they carted away with her Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number WWW-434-AG, but the victim was rescued following an intervention by operatives of the command after overpowering the kidnappers in the gun duel.
The police held that the incident occurred at about 2:50 a.m. on June 23, 2026, but the rescue operation took place in Owo on Wednesday, where operatives intercepted the suspects around Ojana Phase 3. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, after which the victim was freed and her stolen vehicle recovered.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP, Abayomi Jimoh, mentioned that the the stolen vehicle was also recovered alongside two expended cartridges, a sandal abandoned by one of the fleeing suspects, and a torchlight, adding that some of the criminals sustained gunshot injuries before escaping into the bush.
Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, said that the police remain unwavering in it’s ommitment to ensure protection of lives and property across and will ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that timely information from the public remains critical in the fight against crime and criminality.
