The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has charged 30 newly promoted senior police officers to uphold integrity, strengthen public trust and provide exemplary leadership as they assume their new ranks in the Nigeria Police Force.
Disu urged the officers to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, stressing the need for professionalism, accountability and commitment to duty as they take on leadership roles within the Force. He charged them to lead by example, mentor younger officers and promote confidence in the police through their conduct.
The decoration ceremony was held on Tuesday at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where the IGP formally decorated the officers following their recent promotions. The officers comprise 13 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and 17 Commissioners of Police (CPs).
Speaking during the event, the police chief described their promotion as recognition of their years of dedicated and meritorious service to the Force, while acknowledging the sacrifices they had made throughout their careers.
Disu noted that many officers had missed family celebrations and important milestones in the line of duty, and commended their families for their support and sacrifices.
He further urged the newly promoted officers to lead with integrity, humility and humanity, emphasising that commanders who prioritise the welfare of their personnel would earn their loyalty and commitment.
The IGP also encouraged them to build public confidence in the police through their actions and wear their new ranks with humility and pride.
The newly decorated officers were drawn from various commands and formations across the country.
The event was attended by the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Dr Oyekachukwu Ibezim; APC Deputy National Woman Leader, Hajia Zainab Ibrahim; Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Haruna Dangyatin, representing the state governor; Engr. Ken Ekwemigo, representing the Governor of Anambra State; Controller-General of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche; Brigadier-General K.C. Uwa; and other dignitaries.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare, professional development and operational readiness of its officers as it continues efforts to build a more accountable and people-oriented police service.
