The management of the University of Calabar has suspended 19 students for one academic session over alleged examination malpractice.
The suspension followed the approval of the recommendations of the institution’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee by the university’s Senate.
The decision was conveyed in a letter signed by the Director of Administration, Citizen Ekpo, on behalf of the Registrar, Chukwuka Icha.
Speaking on Tuesday, the university’s Head of Public Relations, Effiong Eyo, said the affected students would serve the suspension during the 2025/2026 academic session and resume their studies in the 2026/2027 session.
According to him, the disciplinary action followed the committee’s consideration of cases of alleged examination malpractice involving the affected students.
Eyo said the students were drawn from various faculties, including Administration, Social Sciences, Biological Sciences, Arts, Education, Allied Medical Sciences, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.
He added that they were enrolled in departments such as Nursing Science, Peace and Conflict Studies, Science Laboratory Technology, Estate Management, Marketing and other related disciplines.
The university spokesperson said the management had directed all deans, heads of departments and relevant units to strictly enforce the suspension and ensure full compliance with the directive.
He reiterated the institution’s commitment to upholding academic integrity and maintaining strict compliance with its regulations governing students’ conduct during examinations.
