Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has brokered a resolution to the dispute over the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidacy for the Cross River Central Senatorial District, ending the political disagreement that had trailed the party’s ticket.
The resolution brings to an end the legal battles surrounding the contest, with all pending court cases arising from the senatorial primary now withdrawn as the party moves to unite its members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was announced on Tuesday by the Deputy Governor, Peter Odey, after a reconciliation meeting held at his residence on the directive of Governor Otu.
Odey said the parties agreed to end the legal dispute in the interest of party unity, peace and the progress of the APC in the state.
According to him, Eteng Jones accepted the outcome of the reconciliation, leading to the withdrawal of all pending court matters relating to the party’s senatorial ticket.
He commended Jones for his maturity, understanding and statesmanship throughout the process, describing his decision as a demonstration of commitment to the party’s interest.
“Earlier today, at the instance of His Excellency, the Governor of Cross River State, we put to rest the issue of the senatorial candidacy for the Central Senatorial District of our great party, the APC. Accordingly, all matters pending before the courts have been withdrawn,” Odey said.
The deputy governor urged APC supporters and residents of the Central Senatorial District to support the party’s candidate, Oden Ewa, and work towards its success in the forthcoming elections.
He also appealed to party members to put aside their differences, embrace the reconciliation and remain committed to the unity, peace and progress of the APC.
