The English Football Association, FA, has slammed a two-transfer window ban and £10 million fine on Premier League club, Chelsea, over breaches in player transfer regulations.
The FA, while ruling that it has pend a six-point deduction investigation and ruling on Chelsea till June 30, 2027, held that the club admitted to making £47m in secret payments to unregistered agents and third-parties over transfers made between 2011 and 2018, during the ownership of former owner, Roman Abramovich, thus, leading to the sanctioning, for the second time in the last seven years, last imposed in 2019.
In the declaration on Friday, the board stated that the club were given an immediate nine-month academy transfer ban and a £750,000 fine over the registration of academy players between 2019 and 2022, adding that Chelsea owners, Todd Boehly and the Clearlake Capital self reported 74 breaches of the it’s rules when they bought the club in 2022, and stated that it was continuing its investigations of individual misconduct arising out of the case, adding that the £10 million fine would be investigated into grassroots football.
Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government in March 2022 over alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin – something he has denied.
He was granted a special licence to sell Chelsea following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, providing he could prove he would not benefit from the sale.
