Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as their new head coach, making the Austrian the club’s fifth managerial appointment in less than a year.
The 51-year-old succeeds Vitor Pereira, who was dismissed earlier this week after Forest opted to activate a clause in his contract before its expiry.
Glasner arrives at the City Ground after leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season in search of a new challenge.
Forest begin another managerial era
Forest’s decision continues a period of frequent managerial changes at the club.
Nuno Espirito Santo started last season in charge before Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Pereira all had spells on the touchline.
Reports indicate Forest began discussions with Glasner earlier in the summer, with negotiations progressing after Pereira’s departure.
The club finished 16th in the Premier League last season, five points above the relegation zone, while also reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals before losing to eventual champions Aston Villa.
The appointment marks another attempt by Forest to establish stability ahead of the new campaign.
Glasner brings winning pedigree
Glasner arrives with an impressive managerial record built across Austria, Germany and England.
During his time at Crystal Palace, he guided the London club to the UEFA Europa Conference League title after leading them to FA Cup success in 2025.
Palace also lifted the Community Shield by defeating Liverpool on penalties before Glasner departed at the end of the season.
Earlier in his coaching career, Glasner managed LASK, Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, where he won the UEFA Europa League in 2022.
Despite being offered a new contract at Palace, the Austrian announced in January that he would leave at the end of the campaign, saying he was ready for a fresh challenge.
Forest will now hope Glasner’s experience of winning major trophies and competing in European competitions can help the club improve on last season’s domestic campaign and provide greater stability after a year of managerial upheaval.
