The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board has initiated a community-based health education outreach to curb the spread of waterborne diseases across the state.
Executive Secretary Ruwanu Mohammed announced on Friday that health education officers across all 20 local government areas have been deployed, with operations concentrated in hard-to-reach communities. The campaign will prioritise handwashing, hygiene promotion, environmental sanitation, routine immunisation, and nutrition, among other health imperatives.
The initiative seeks to bolster disease prevention and encourage residents to uphold safe, hygienic environments. Mr Mohammed urged the public to adopt proper practices, including regular handwashing with soap and clean water, to avert potential outbreaks.
He noted that the state recorded few suspected cases in 2025 and emphasised that the community-based strategy—reliant on interpersonal engagement—would enhance reach among rural populations. The board, he added, will sustain collaboration with key stakeholders to improve access to health information and services, particularly in underserved areas.
