Barcelona have reportedly submitted an official bid to Borussia Dortmund for Germany international Karim Adeyemi as the La Liga champions step up efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The Catalan club is said to have accelerated negotiations in recent days, with transfer insiders reporting that a formal offer has already been sent to Borussia Dortmund for the 24-year-old winger.
Reports indicate that Adeyemi has informed Dortmund of his desire to leave the Bundesliga this summer, with Barcelona emerging as his preferred destination despite interest from clubs in the English Premier League.
Barcelona are also believed to have reached a verbal agreement on personal terms with the player following talks involving his representatives, led by agent Jorge Mendes. The proposed deal is expected to be a long-term contract, although the two clubs are yet to agree on a transfer fee.
Dortmund reportedly value Adeyemi at around €40 million and are open to selling the forward after negotiations over a contract extension stalled. Reports suggest the player’s camp requested the inclusion of a release clause in a new deal, an issue that has delayed renewal talks.
While details of Barcelona’s opening offer have not been disclosed, both clubs are expected to continue discussions in the coming days in an effort to reach an agreement before the start of pre-season.
A key factor behind Barcelona’s pursuit is manager Hansi Flick, who has worked with Adeyemi during his time as Germany’s national team coach. Flick is understood to be a strong admirer of the winger and has reportedly identified him as a key addition to his attacking options.
Adeyemi, who can play on either wing and through the middle, has made 146 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, scoring 36 goals and providing 25 assists since joining the Bundesliga club.
Barcelona believe his pace, versatility and pressing ability would complement the club’s attacking style and provide additional support alongside young star Lamine Yamal and Brazilian winger Raphinha.
If negotiations progress smoothly, Adeyemi could complete his move to Camp Nou in time to join Barcelona’s pre-season preparations. However, as of now, the transfer remains subject to an agreement between the two clubs.
