The late veteran motoring broadcaster, Babatunde Bola Ojo, was posthumously honoured with the Broadcast Excellence Award at the Motoring World 30th Anniversary celebration held at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to transport and automotive broadcasting in Nigeria.
The emotional presentation formed one of the highlights of the anniversary event, which brought together government officials, captains of the automotive industry, transport stakeholders, motoring journalists and corporate executives to celebrate three decades of Motoring World’s contributions to automotive journalism and industry advocacy.
The award recognised Bola Ojo’s professionalism, passion and unwavering commitment to promoting road safety, sustainable mobility and the growth of Nigeria’s automotive industry through electronic broadcasting. During his career, he earned widespread respect for using the broadcast media to educate the public on transportation issues and advocate safer road practices.
Speaking on the significance of the honour, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Motoring World, Femi Owoeye, described the late broadcaster as a trailblazer whose legacy continues to inspire professionals across the transport and automotive sectors.
According to Owoeye, the posthumous recognition was intended to preserve the memory of a man whose dedication to motoring and transport broadcasting left an enduring mark on the industry.
“The Posthumous Broadcast Excellence Award bestowed on the late Babatunde Bola Ojo is our way of preserving the legacy of a man whose dedication to motoring and transport broadcasting inspired generations.
“He used the microphone not merely to inform but to educate, advocate and promote safer roads and a stronger automotive industry. Though he is no longer with us, his impact continues to resonate across the industry, and we believe his remarkable contributions deserve to be remembered and celebrated,” he said.
Owoeye added that the Motoring World @30 celebration was designed not only to commemorate the publication’s 30 years of service to Nigeria’s automotive sector but also to honour individuals and organisations whose vision, professionalism and commitment have contributed significantly to the industry’s development.
The late Bola Ojo was among several distinguished personalities and organisations recognised during the ceremony for their outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s automotive, transport and mobility sectors over the past three decades.
The anniversary celebration also featured a keynote address by former Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, who reflected on developments in road safety and transportation in Nigeria. The event further showcased industry reflections and the presentation of special awards to leading automotive journalists, industry leaders and corporate organisations.
The ceremony underscored Motoring World’s continued commitment to recognising excellence while promoting innovation, professionalism and sustainable growth within Nigeria’s automotive ecosystem.
