The Nigerian Army has recorded another operational success in its ongoing campaign against criminal elements in the South-East, with troops of Sector 4, Joint Task Force South-East, Operation UDO KA, recovering a cache of arms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation in Rivers State.
The operation, carried out yesterday, targeted a suspected criminal hideout at Awara Community Waterside in Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area and along the Omoku–Ogbaku–Ndoni axis.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided a forest enclave believed to have served as a staging base for kidnappings and attacks on security personnel and civilians.
During the operation, the soldiers recovered one Lee-Enfield MK I rifle, one G3 rifle, 116 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and 13 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement posted on its official X account on Friday, said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks, deny armed groups safe havens, and restore peace and stability across the South-East.
The Army added that troops have continued to dominate the operational area and that the clearance operation remains ongoing to rid the area of criminal elements.
“This latest recovery, the fourth successful seizure of illegal arms and ammunition by troops within the last two weeks, further demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the growing synergy between the Nigerian Army, sister security agencies and patriotic members of the public,” the statement said.
The military reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations until criminal networks are dismantled across the region.
It also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, stressing that collective vigilance remains essential to achieving lasting peace, security, and socio-economic stability in the South-East and across the country.
