Operatives of the Nigeria Army have clashed with a group of gunmen leading to the death of one of the latter while attacking the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) facility in Plateau State.
The NIPSS held that during the exchange of gunfire, one of the assailants was killed, while others fled the scene with gunshot injuries, as revealed in a statement issued by the Head of Public Affairs of NIPSS, Osime Samuel, on Thursday.
Samuel said that after the incident which occurred yesterday at about 11 p.m, all participants of the Senior Executive Course, staff members, residents and facilities remained unharmed as Army operatives prevented the attackers from gaining access to the premises.
He further disclosed that security agencies have launched efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while additional surveillance and other preventive security measures have been strengthened within and around the institution.
The Institute reassured stakeholders that the protection of lives and property remains its foremost responsibility and also praised the swift response and professionalism displayed by Army operatives during the operation, urging members of the public not to be misled by unverified reports capable of creating unnecessary panic.
Meanwhile, the attack comes only days after another attempted invasion of the Institute by gunmen seeking to gain access to the premises, raising fresh concerns about security threats targeting strategic national institutions.
