APC-Sponsored Students Endorse Gwamna, Predict Brighter Future for Gombe Youths
Thirty-nine students from Gombe State sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna, to study at Yamusa Science Academy, Birnin Kebbi, have declared their support for his 2027 governorship ambition, expressing confidence that children, women and youths would be the greatest beneficiaries of his administration if elected.
The beneficiaries, who are currently pursuing various degree programmes in higher institutions, said the scholarship initiative had transformed their lives and demonstrated Gwamna’s commitment to human capital development.
In a message addressed to the people of Gombe State, the scholars described the APC candidate as a leader who has consistently invested in education and youth development, even before seeking elective office.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mohammed Umar said the selection of the 39 students from different parts of the state without regard to personal connections reflected Gwamna’s genuine passion for developing the state’s human resources.
According to him, the decision to sponsor the students with personal resources showed that Gwamna possesses the vision and commitment required to expand educational opportunities for thousands of young people if elected governor.
“We are undergraduates today because he believed in our future. This gives us confidence that under his leadership, the future of children and youths in Gombe State will be brighter and more secure,” Umar said, urging young people across the state to support Gwamna’s candidacy.
Another beneficiary, Hafsat Abubakar, described the scholarship as a life-changing opportunity that enabled her to pursue her educational aspirations as a girl-child.
She said the intervention had inspired many young people to believe that access to quality education should not be limited by financial constraints.
Responding, Dr. Gwamna reaffirmed that investment in education and human capital development would remain a cornerstone of his administration if elected.
He pledged to prioritise youth empowerment through quality education, vocational training and digital skills acquisition to equip young people with the knowledge and competencies needed to thrive in a competitive economy.
The APC governorship candidate also commended Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for what he described as remarkable progress in the education sector, particularly in upgrading infrastructure and improving learning outcomes across the state.
According to Gwamna, the governor’s declaration of a State of Emergency in Education has produced measurable improvements.
“Education in Gombe has moved from emergency to excellence. From a 22 per cent pass rate, Gombe now records about 76 per cent success in external examinations. More than 450,000 out-of-school children have returned to classrooms, over 1,600 classrooms have been renovated, and five Mega Colleges have been established to accommodate increasing enrolment,” he said.
Gwamna pledged to consolidate on the achievements of the current administration by expanding investments in education, skills development and youth empowerment programmes.
“This is a story of redemption, and we will continue on this path until Gombe State becomes the reality of our collective dreams,” he said.
The statement was issued by Ibrahim Sani Shawai, spokesperson to Dr. Jamil Isyaku Gwamna.
