Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan stormed into the women’s 100m hurdles final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with a dominant 12.19-second heat victory in Glasgow on Thursday.
Leading from the start, the former world champion controlled Heat One with ease, pulling away from her rivals for a comfortable win.
Behind her, South Africa’s Marione Fourie grabbed second spot in 12.50 seconds, followed by Jamaica’s Kerrica Hill in third with 12.69 seconds.
Amusan’s time, aided by a strong +3.8m/s tailwind, ranks as the fastest ever recorded at the Commonwealth Games under any conditions.
It will not, however, count as a Games record because the wind exceeded the legal limit of +2.0m/s.
Even with the assistance, the Nigerian’s composed and commanding display reinforced her position among the leading contenders for gold.
She looked completely in control throughout the race, underlining the form that has made her a consistent force on the global stage.
Amusan will return later on Thursday for the final, where she aims to claim the Commonwealth title and add it to her already impressive collection of international honours.
Her successful qualification forms part of Team Nigeria’s solid athletics campaign in Glasgow.
