Activision has responded after the newly released Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and 2 PS5 ports were hacked, leaving the multiplayer overrun with cheaters. The publisher has disabled select playlists while it investigates the BO1 and BO2 exploits.
Activision Responds to Black Ops 2 PS5 Cheaters
It’s only been a few days since Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and 2 were released on PS5, and the modern ports have already been broken. Hackers managed to compromise both BO1 and BO2, allowing players to cheat in their online multiplayer modes. Players quickly began reporting lobbies filled with hackers using exploits that made online matches nearly impossible to play.
After intense backlash from players, Activision has issued a response. In a post on X, Activision confirmed that it is offering support for the BO1 PS5 port and are working to stop cheaters. According to the publisher, it is disabling select playlists while it investigates the issue. “Call of Duty: #BlackOps on PS4/PS5 Select playlists have been disabled as we investigate reported issues.”
Activision has not said how long it will take to fix the Black Ops PS5 ports, as cheaters managed to break through the game’s systems almost immediately after launch and have made multiplayer unplayable for many users. Activision has not provided a timeline for when the affected playlists will return.
It also should be pointed out that the Activision announcement only mentions Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and not BO2. So it’s not currently clear if they are also going to be disabling select Black Ops 2 playlists soon as well.
Why Did Activision Disable Black Ops 1 PS5 Playlists?
As we mentioned above, Call of Duty Black Ops 1 and BO2 were recently hacked days after they launched on PS5. The issue quickly became one of the biggest complaints surrounding the rerelease, with many players saying online multiplayer was effectively unplayable. For example, one of the exploits cheaters were taking advantage of was giving other players “negative XP” which would lead to their accounts being banned from online multiplayer modes.

1. Negative XP Hack (Resets Players to Level 1)
The most damaging exploit discovered so far is the Negative XP hack. Players report that cheaters can force other users to lose experience points, dropping their accounts back to Level 1. In some cases, victims have claimed they became temporarily locked out of online multiplayer after being hit by the exploit.
2. Instant Master Prestige Hack
Hackers have reportedly found a way to instantly reach Master Prestige without legitimately leveling up. Fresh accounts have also been seen jumping to the maximum rank within minutes of being created.
3. Unlock All Cheat
Players have also encountered “Unlock All” accounts that instantly grant every multiplayer item, including:
- Every weapon
- All attachments
- Weapon camos
- Calling cards
- Emblems
- Max progression
4. Modded Account Exploits
Instead of traditional mod menus, many players believe hackers are importing modified account data into the PS5 ports. Reported signs of these accounts include:
- Impossible statistics
- Instant unlocks
- Challenge completion without meeting requirements
- Max Prestige on brand-new accounts
5. Wallhack Cheat
Multiple players have reported encountering wallhack users in online matches. According to reports, these players appear to:
- Track enemies through walls
- Consistently land wallbang kills
- Pre-fire opponents with suspicious accuracy
For now, Activision has only publicly acknowledged issues affecting Call of Duty: Black Ops on PS4 and PS5. However, with players reporting similar hacks across both PS5 ports, many are hoping the publisher expands its support to include Black Ops 2 as well.
