US-Iran War Live Updates: The next phase of diplomacy in the West Asia war remains uncertain after US President Donald Trump said a meeting with Iran in Doha on Tuesday “may be important, perhaps not.” At the same time, Tehran rules out any plans of direct meeting with the US at all.
Washington’s objective, Trump reiterated, is the “denuclearisation of Iran”, adding that the talks would determine whether a broader breakthrough is possible.
The uncertainty comes against the backdrop of renewed military tensions over the past weekend despite a ceasefire memorandum signed earlier this month. Iran had targeted ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz and insisted that vessels coordinate with the Revolutionary Guard while using routes close to Iran’s southern coast.
Elsewhere in the region, tensions remain elevated after Lebanese state media reported an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon despite a framework accord signed last week.
