The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed the death of a truck driver in a lone road traffic accident involving a 40-foot containerized articulated vehicle along the Isheri Elemu inward Ijegun corridor in Lagos.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, also left a motor boy injured after the truck reportedly lost stability and overturned while in motion.
According to LASTMA, the driver became trapped beneath the overturned vehicle and died instantly as a result of the impact. The motor boy, who sustained multiple injuries and fractures, was rescued at the scene and rushed to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
Preliminary findings indicated that the truck, which was not carrying any cargo at the time, suddenly lost balance before crashing and overturning along the highway.
LASTMA operatives, alongside its Rescue and Recovery Unit, swiftly responded to the emergency, evacuating the injured victim and recovering the body of the deceased driver from beneath the wreckage.
The agency also secured the accident scene and directed traffic to prevent secondary crashes while recovery operations were ongoing.
Officers of the Isheri Osun Police Division provided security support during the operation to ensure order and assist emergency responders.
A heavy-duty crane and flatbed truck were later deployed to remove the overturned vehicle and clear the roadway, restoring normal traffic flow along the corridor.
LASTMA General Manager, Bakare-Oki Olalekan, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased driver and wished the injured motor boy a speedy recovery.
Olalekan also urged truck operators and fleet owners to ensure strict maintenance of heavy-duty vehicles, stressing that regular checks on brakes, tyres, steering, and suspension systems are essential to prevent avoidable accidents.
The LASTMA boss warned that mechanical failures in articulated vehicles continue to pose serious risks to lives and road safety across Lagos State.
