Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have launched a deliberate offensive against terrorist and bandit elements in Katsina State.
The campaign, codenamed Operation CLEAN SWEEP III, is aimed at dismantling criminal networks and restoring security across Matazu Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.
The operation follows the abduction and killing of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, who was kidnapped alongside his wife by suspected terrorists in the area.
Military authorities said the offensive is intended to track down and neutralise those responsible, while restoring confidence among residents.
Since the commencement of the operation on Monday, troops have conducted fighting patrols, intelligence-led raids, cordon-and-search missions, and clearance operations targeting identified hideouts.
In Dikkawa Hills and surrounding communities, soldiers destroyed terrorists’ logistics bases and life-support structures, significantly degrading their operational capacity.
The Theatre Commander, JTF OPFY, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, said the operation reflects the military’s commitment to protecting civilians and denying criminals freedom of action in the region.
He assured residents of Matazu and neighbouring communities of sustained military presence and protection for law-abiding citizens.
The operation is being conducted in collaboration with sister services, other security agencies, and local stakeholders.
Residents were urged to continue providing credible intelligence to assist ongoing operations, with assurances that all information will be treated with confidentiality.
The campaign underscores the military’s resolve to confront insecurity decisively, turning grief into action.
By targeting terrorist enclaves, the operation aims to deliver justice for the slain general and restore stability to communities affected by violence.
