Nigerian Army troops, in collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State following a coordinated security operation.
The suspects, who are nationals of four West African countries, were apprehended during raids on several communities after authorities alleged that they had been residing in the state without valid immigration documents.
The operation was carried out in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and surrounding communities after months of surveillance and intelligence gathering, security officials said.
According to a statement issued by the military, on Monday, the suspects comprise 36 males and 10 females, including 18 nationals of Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal.
During interrogation, the suspects claimed to be merchants and workers affiliated with QNet, an online marketing platform involved in the sale of various commodities.
Investigators said the group had allegedly lived in the state for about six months without proper authorisation or valid documentation.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service for further investigation and necessary administrative action in line with existing immigration laws.
Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, commended the troops and other security agencies for their professionalism and vigilance during the operation.
He also urged residents to remain security conscious and promptly report suspicious activities or individuals to the appropriate authorities.
According to the command, the operation underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to combating illegal migration, strengthening internal security, and safeguarding national interests across Ogun State.
