Sokoto CP Seeks Sultan’s Blessings, Pledges Stronger Security Collaboration
The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has sought the support and blessings of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, as part of efforts to strengthen security and community policing across the state.
The police commissioner made the appeal during a courtesy visit to the Sultan at his palace in Sokoto shortly after assuming office as the new head of the Sokoto State Police Command.
CP Shaffa, who was accompanied by members of the command’s management team, formally introduced himself to the revered monarch and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a strong partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and traditional institutions in addressing security challenges.
He acknowledged the critical role of traditional rulers in grassroots intelligence gathering, conflict resolution, and community engagement, stressing that effective policing requires close collaboration with community leaders.
The commissioner assured the Sultan that the command would continue to strengthen community policing initiatives and deepen cooperation with traditional institutions to enhance public safety and security across the state.
Responding, the Sultan of Sokoto warmly welcomed the new police commissioner and congratulated him on his appointment.
The monarch urged CP Shaffa to maintain close working relationships with traditional rulers at all levels, noting that their proximity to local communities places them in a strategic position to provide timely and actionable intelligence.
“Security is a collective responsibility. Traditional rulers are closer to the people; they know the terrain, the families, and the movements within their communities. Working closely with them will greatly enhance efforts to tackle security challenges in the state,” the Sultan said.
He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between security agencies and traditional institutions, describing such partnerships as essential for addressing emerging security threats and maintaining peace and stability.
The visit underscored the longstanding relationship between the Sokoto State Police Command and the Sultanate Council, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation in the interest of public safety.
