Shell has appointed Elohor Aiboni as Executive Vice President and Country Chair, Nigeria, succeeding Marno de Jong, who is stepping down after a distinguished 34-year career with the company.
The appointment marks a historic milestone for Shell’s operations in Nigeria, with Aiboni becoming the first Nigerian to hold the combined position of Executive Vice President and Country Chair.
Shell announced the appointment on Wednesday, with Aiboni expected to assume her new role on August 1, 2026.
The leadership change comes as Shell seeks to sustain continuity in its operations and strategic investments in Nigeria, where it remains one of the country’s largest oil and gas companies.
Aiboni brings more than 24 years of experience within the Shell Group. In 2021, she made history as the first woman to serve as Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo), where she led the Bonga field to the production of its one-billionth barrel of oil.
Speaking on her appointment, Aiboni expressed excitement about the opportunity to continue advancing Shell’s business in Nigeria.
“I’m excited at the opportunity to continue contributing to the efficient delivery of Shell’s business in Nigeria and thereby power progress in a country where we have operated for more than 60 years. Marno has led from the heart, and it is a legacy I am keen to build upon,” she said.
