Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has reiterated his commitment to transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector through the industrialization of the agricultural value chain, describing agriculture as one of the country’s greatest untapped economic opportunities.
According to a statement outlining his vision, Senator Kalu believes that with strategic investment, effective leadership, and the right policies, agriculture can become a major driver of economic growth, job creation, wealth generation, and sustainable national development.
The lawmaker’s vision is centred on moving Nigeria beyond traditional farming practices by building a modern agricultural ecosystem where farmers are empowered, agricultural produce is processed locally, and rural communities benefit from expanded economic opportunities.
Under the proposed framework, emphasis would be placed on increasing agricultural production, supporting the establishment and growth of agro-processing industries, improving critical infrastructure, and creating employment opportunities for young Nigerians across the agricultural value chain.

Senator Kalu maintained that shifting agriculture “from the farm to the factory” would not only add value to locally produced commodities but also boost industrialization, reduce post-harvest losses, enhance food security, and strengthen the nation’s economy.
