THE Federal Road Safe Corps (FRSC), Jigawa Command, has urged motorists and other road users to drive below the speed limit during the rainy season in order to avoid crashes.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Mr Mas’udu Matazu, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Dutse.
Matazu also warned drivers against use of worn out tyres as they could cause brake failure, which might lead to road crash, loss of lives and property.
He explained that the warning was imperative in order to ensure safer roads and crash-free driving in the state during the season.
The sector commander also advised drivers to always do the preliminaries (Pre-vehicle Use Checks) and ensure their vehicles are in good working condition.
“Drivers are advised to reduce speed because roads are slippery during in rains, they should drive below the speed limit.
“They should check their vehicles daily to ensure that wipers, brakes, tires and lights are in good condition.
“Drivers are also advised to maintain distance by increasing their following distance to between three and four seconds and avoid sudden braking to prevent skidding,” the sector commander.
Matazu further stressed the need for drivers to turn on their headlights even during the day for clear visibility and avoid flooded roads.
“Turn around, don’t drown as water depth can be deceptive, don’t use your phone while driving and keep both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, drive safely to arrive alive,” he advised.
