The Ogun State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in coordinated intelligence-led operations across Abeokuta, Wasimi and Ibafo, leading to the arrest of six suspects linked to armed crime and organised theft networks.
The operations were carried out by the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), and the Ibafo Division following actionable intelligence.
According to the Command in a statement issued on Wednesday, the coordinated raids led to the disruption of criminal networks involved in illegal possession of firearms, armed intimidation, theft, conspiracy and receiving stolen property.
The suspects arrested include Afisu Awesu, Bala Aminu, Moruf Sodiq (alias “Okiki”), Mumuni Amodu (alias “Stone”), Abayomi John (alias “Ibafo”) and Adeboye Ojesina.
Recovered exhibits include one pump-action rifle, one locally fabricated pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, five generators and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been stolen.
In the first operation on May 30, 2026, operatives of the VCRU arrested Moruf Sodiq, who was linked to a generator theft syndicate operating within Abeokuta and surrounding areas.
He was later taken to Mumuni Amodu, identified as a receiver of stolen property. A search of the premises led to the recovery of four Elepaq generators, one Sumec Fireman generator and nine Android mobile phones suspected to have been recently stolen.
In a further breakthrough, Abayomi John, a motorcyclist, was also arrested for allegedly providing logistical support by conveying suspects to targeted locations during operations.
In a separate operation on June 12, 2026, SWAT operatives arrested Adeboye Ojesina in connection with unlawful possession of firearms and alleged use of weapons to threaten residents in Wasimi and adjoining communities.
A search of his premises led to the recovery of one locally fabricated pistol, one pump-action rifle and ammunition. The suspect initially denied ownership but later claimed he recovered the pistol locally and fired it to test its functionality, while alleging the rifle was given to him by an unidentified individual.
In another operation on June 13, 2026, operatives of the Ibafo Division arrested Afisu Awesu while attempting to steal a forklift engine component with an accomplice who escaped.
Further investigation revealed that the suspects had earlier stolen forklift tyres from the same site and sold them to Bala Aminu in Kara, Ibafo. Acting on this information, detectives arrested Bala Aminu as the alleged receiver of stolen property.
The Command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing suspects and other members of the criminal networks. The suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
