The Adamawa police have arrested three robbers responsible for a series of criminal activities that have continued to unsettle residents across several communities in the state.
The suspects were identified as Abdulmalik Mohammad, 22, Abba Mustapha, 21, and Ibrahim Yusuf, 22.
The robbers were apprehended following a targeted operation based on intelligence gathered by investigators as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal gangs and curb violent crimes in the state.
According to a statement released by the police on Thursday, the suspects were arrested during an operation carried out in Adamawa suburbs,
Police said they were arrested by operatives attached to the Criminal Investigation Department during an operation aimed at tracking down individuals linked to organised criminal activities.
Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje said the operation formed part of the command’s sustained crackdown on Shilla gangsterism and related crimes.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives attached to D15 of the State Criminal Investigation Department carried out a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the suspects,” Nguroje said.
The trio is being questioned over allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, possession of dangerous weapons and possession of suspected banned substances.
During the operation, police reportedly recovered dangerous weapons and substances believed to be prohibited from the suspects.
Preliminary findings, according to the statement, indicated that the suspects may be connected to criminal activities associated with Shilla gangs, a notorious robbery gang.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of Police Kabir Hassan reaffirmed the command’s determination to intensify operations against criminal groups and other threats to public safety.
“The command remains committed to rooting out criminal elements and ensuring the safety of residents,” he said, while urging members of the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
