FORMER Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need to continue his political journey on a new platform.

Ochei announced his resignation in a statement made available to journalists on Monday in Asaba.

According to him, the decision followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with political associates, supporters and stakeholders.

He said he joined the APC in 2016 with a sincere belief in the vision and future of the party and had since devoted himself to strengthening its structures and expanding its reach across Delta State.

“Together with many committed party faithfuls, we expanded the party’s reach, deepened its structures, mobilised support across communities and worked tirelessly to give the party relevance and visibility within our political environment,” he said.

Ochei noted that throughout his time in the party, he contributed to grassroots mobilisation, youth and women inclusion, democratic participation and political engagement.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded during his membership of the APC, saying the party had benefited from the collective efforts of its members and supporters.

The former lawmaker, however, said leadership and political institutions must continually evolve to reflect inclusion, fairness, mutual respect and the aspirations of the people.

“Growth remains a constant necessity in every institution, political movement and human endeavour.

“It is in recognition of this need for broader growth and the continuation of my political convictions that I have chosen to chart a new course,” he said.

Ochei emphasised that his resignation was not motivated by bitterness or hostility toward any individual or group within the party.

“This decision is not borne out of bitterness, resentment or hostility toward anyone. Rather, it is inspired by my enduring commitment to service, progress and the political future I envision for our people,” he stated.

He expressed gratitude to party leaders, stakeholders, supporters and members who stood by him during his years in the APC.

Ochei urged his supporters and associates to remain peaceful and committed to democratic ideals as he embarks on the next phase of his political career.

“As I move forward, I do so with hope, renewed determination and faith in the future.

“I urge all my supporters and associates to remain peaceful, focused and committed to the democratic ideals we all share,” he said.

He did not disclose the political platform he intends to join following his resignation from the APC.
