Ederson is set to become the first signing of the new era at Manchester United after the club agreed a £35 million deal with Atalanta for the Brazilian midfielder.
The agreement includes an additional £3.9 million in performance-related bonuses, with the 26-year-old expected to sign a four-year contract that contains an option for a further 12 months.
Medical next as transfer nears completion
Ederson is still due to undergo a medical examination, but sources indicate the move is expected to be completed in early July before United return for pre-season preparations.
The midfielder will become the first player recruited since Michael Carrick was appointed permanent head coach last month.
United prioritise midfield rebuild
The signing is viewed as the first step in a wider midfield overhaul at Old Trafford following the departure of Casemiro.
United are understood to be targeting up to three central midfield additions this summer and continue to monitor Mateus Fernandes of West Ham United and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
Further recruitment plans taking shape
Beyond midfield, Manchester United are also exploring reinforcements on the left side of defence, with Lewis Hall among the names being considered.
The club are additionally seeking attacking support for Benjamin Sesko and continue to assess their goalkeeping options amid uncertainty surrounding Andre Onana.
Ederson arrives with a strong reputation after making 180 appearances for Atalanta, contributing 16 goals while operating in several midfield roles.
The Brazilian has also earned three senior international caps and was included in Brazil’s provisional squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
