The Lagos State Government has urged it’s procurement officers to ensure effectiveness and professionalism in procuring contract works to ensure attainment of developmental projects in the area.
The government, through it’s Public Procurement Agency (PPA) issued a clarion call to the stakeholders, encouraging them to uphold accountability ethical conduct in all procurement activities.
The encouragement was passed by the Director General of the PPA, Fatai Onafowote, who stated that no government administration can achieve sustainable growth and development without dependable and competent contractors to carry out infrastructural works, as well as service providers, consultants, suppliers, and other procurement stakeholders.
Onafowote, during a 2026 Stakeholders’ Forum, it’s 2026 edition, held at the Watercress Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday, held that the procurement officers remain strategic partners in the execution of government policies, infrastructure delivery, and socio-economic and technological transformation.
During the event tagged“Solid Foundations: Service Providers as the Bedrock of a Prosperous Lagos”, Onafowote added the Lagos cannot be built on weak foundations, saying that it requires strong institutions, transparent systems, ethical procurement practices, and reliable stakeholders who are committed to excellence and timely delivery.
“Indeed, service providers constitute the foundation upon which public projects and essential services are built,” he began
“From roads to schools, hospitals to housing schemes, ICT infrastructure to environmental projects, every successful government initiative depends largely on the professionalism, integrity, competence, and dedication of service providers.
“We believe that procurement is not merely a transactional process but a strategic tool for economic growth, social inclusion, and sustainable development.
“Professionalism and integrity must remain the guiding principles of all service providers. The Government expects contractors and suppliers to execute projects according to specifications, within approved timelines, and with utmost accountability. We must collectively reject practices that undermine quality, delay project execution, or compromise public trust,” the agency’s head added.
According to him, the forum served as a platform to deepen mutual understanding and address challenges confronting stakeholders within the procurement value chain, adding that the agency remains committed to strengthening the procurement process through capacity building, stakeholder engagement, digital innovation, and strict compliance with procurement regulations.
“Your feedback, experiences, and recommendations are essential in helping the Agency improve its processes and strengthen service delivery.
“The Agency will continue to maintain an open-door policy that encourages constructive engagement and partnership. We are determined to create a procurement environment that supports innovation, empowers local businesses, promotes healthy competition, and ultimately contributes to the economic prosperity of Lagos State,” he said.
