The Lagos State Government has announced the temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge to allow the installation of heavy steel beams as part of ongoing rehabilitation works being carried out by the Federal Ministry of Works.
The closure will be implemented in two phases: Wednesday, 17 June 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and Sunday, 21 June 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., during which the bridge will be completely shut to vehicular movement for safety and smooth execution of the engineering works.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the installation involves the lifting and positioning of heavy steel beams, requiring full traffic control and strict safety measures along the corridor.
He noted that motorists on the Apapa, Ijora, Costain, Marina, and Yaba/Oyingbo routes would experience temporary disruptions and urged road users to plan their journeys in advance and comply with diversion instructions.
“To ease movement during the closure, the government has provided alternative routes for affected motorists,” the statement said.
“Motorists travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa, and Costain are advised to divert through Funsho Williams Avenue, while those from Marina heading to the same destinations should descend the ramp to Iddo-Onigbe and connect Oyingbo via Murtala Muhammed Way.
“Similarly, motorists from Ijora Olopa and Apapa heading towards Carter Bridge and Marina should use Apapa Road, link Murtala Muhammed Way through Iddo-Onigbe, and proceed via Carter Bridge.”
The government appealed for patience and cooperation from motorists, noting that the temporary disruption is necessary for the successful completion of the project and improved traffic flow and infrastructure safety across Lagos.
