The Lagos State Government has begun an eight-week drainage construction project along Baale Animashaun Road in Ifako-Ijaiye, leading to traffic diversion in the area.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure and channel stormwater runoff from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street, and surrounding communities to reduce flooding.
The announcement was made on Friday, June 12, 2026, by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in an official statement issued by the ministry.
According to the commissioner, construction work on a culvert across Baale Animashaun Road is necessary to properly channel stormwater from adjoining areas and improve drainage efficiency.
He added that the project is scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026, and is expected to last for eight weeks.
To ease traffic flow during the construction period, the government outlined alternative routes for motorists plying the corridor.
It stated that motorists coming from Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway into Baale Animashaun Road should divert through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, connect to Alakuko Road, and rejoin Baale Animashaun Road.
Other alternative routes include Jendor Junction through Alhaji Ganiyu Road, as well as Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop via Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street, and Fola Azeez Street.
The government stressed that there would be no direct access into Baale Animashaun Road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway during the construction period.
Motorists were advised to obey traffic signs and follow instructions from traffic management officials to ensure smooth movement throughout the duration of the project.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to improving road infrastructure and reducing flooding across Lagos State.
