The Kwankwasiyya movement has rejected reports suggesting that its leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is considering leaving the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation on social media regarding alleged disagreements within the party over candidate selections and internal power-sharing arrangements.
Movement Says Kwankwaso Remains in NDC
Speaking on behalf of the movement, spokesperson Habeeb Saleh Mohammed stated that there is no plan for Kwankwaso to leave the party.
According to him, the movement remains fully committed to the NDC and continues to focus on strengthening its political structure ahead of future electoral contests.
He emphasized that reports suggesting otherwise should be disregarded by members of the public.
Primaries Conducted in Line With INEC Guidelines
The spokesperson explained that the movement followed all required procedures during its recent primary elections.
He noted that candidates emerged through consensus and internal consultations before the primaries were conducted in accordance with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
According to him, the process was completed successfully and without major disputes from party members or aspirants.
He further stated that the results have already been forwarded to the party leadership for the next stage of the process.
Reaction to Candidate List Controversy
The clarification follows reports alleging tensions between the national leadership of the NDC and the Kwankwasiyya bloc over candidate nominations in Kano State.
The reports claimed that certain candidate lists submitted by the movement had been adjusted to reflect an existing power-sharing arrangement within the party.
The arrangement reportedly involved the distribution of positions between different political interests within the state structure.
However, the movement insists that the controversy has not affected its commitment to the party or its leadership.
Kwankwasiyya Calls for Unity
Mohammed urged supporters to remain focused and avoid being distracted by speculation circulating online.
He stressed that the movement remains united and continues to work toward its political objectives within the NDC.
According to him, no meeting, discussion or decision has taken place regarding the possibility of Kwankwaso leaving the party.
