The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed a temporary three-week suspension of its Kajola-Apapa passenger train service to facilitate essential maintenance on locomotives and rolling stock.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Kayode Opeifa announced the development via the corporation’s official X handle on Tuesday, stating that the disruption would take effect from July 6, with services resuming on July 27.
“The final passenger service before the suspension will operate on July 3,” Opeifa confirmed.
In a move designed to minimise disruption, the NRC chief assured that freight services to and from the Apapa Port Complex, alongside other train terminals across both narrow-gauge and standard-gauge corridors, would continue uninterrupted throughout the maintenance period.
Passengers seeking alternative travel arrangements have been directed to the Lagos Mass Transit Train services, which operate weekdays from Monday to Friday. Morning services depart Ijoko at 6.30am and Kajola at 7.00am for Iddo, while evening return services leave Iddo at 5.30pm for Ijoko and 6.15pm for Kajola.
“We encourage passengers to utilise these services during the temporary suspension of the Kajola-Apapa (BAT) Passenger Train Service,” Opeifa added.
The corporation expressed regret for any inconvenience caused, emphasising that the maintenance programme was imperative to guarantee continued safety, reliability and operational efficiency.
“We appreciate your patience, understanding and continued patronage,” Opeifa concluded.
