The Kebbi State House of Assembly has elected Salihu Dangoje as its new Speaker following a unanimous decision by lawmakers to fill a leadership vacuum in the state legislature.
Lawmakers reached the decision through a formal nomination and seconding process, which culminated in an uncontested vote reflecting broad support for the new leadership.
The election took place during plenary at the Assembly Complex in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, where members gathered to conclude the succession process and stabilise leadership within the legislature.
The Clerk of the House supervised the sitting and confirmed that the development became necessary following the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker, Mohammed Zuru.
Salihu Dangoje, who represents Sakaba Constituency, was subsequently nominated, seconded, and elected without opposition.
In his acceptance speech, Dangoje expressed appreciation to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him, pledging a leadership style anchored on unity, transparency, and legislative efficiency.
“I will ensure inclusive, transparent and purposeful leadership that strengthens collaboration among members,” he said.
He added that priority would be given to people-oriented laws that promote development and good governance across the state.
Dangoje further pledged to reinforce harmony within the chamber and enhance legislative productivity, assuring that the House would remain focused on its constitutional responsibilities.
