A Federal High Court sitting in Katsina State has sentenced a woman found guilty of supplying logistics to terrorist groups to death by hanging after convicting her on terrorism-related charges.
The convict, Hauwa’u Mukhtar, was sentenced following her arraignment by the Department of State Services (DSS) after she was arrested on September 16, 2023, at Jibia Motor Park while allegedly transporting ammunition.
The court held that the prosecution successfully proved that she conspired to commit acts of terrorism and aided terrorist operations by conveying ammunition intended for a suspected bandit leader.
The judgment was delivered on Tuesday by Justice A. B. Bawale of High Court No. 3, after reviewing evidence presented by both the prosecution and defence.
Court records showed that Mukhtar was intercepted while attempting to transport 438 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition allegedly destined for Ado, a suspected bandit kingpin operating from a forest hideout in Zamfara State.
After evaluating witness testimonies, exhibits, and legal submissions, the court ruled that the charges had been proved beyond reasonable doubt.
“The prosecution has established its case against the defendant,” the judge held while returning a guilty verdict on both counts.
Following the conviction, the court sentenced Mukhtar to death by hanging in line with the Katsina State Penal Code Law, 2021.
