Just in: Again, Tinubu extends Customs CG Adeniyi’s tenure by six months

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted a final six-month tenure extension to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, extending his service until February 2027.

The announcement was made on Friday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, via his official X account.

According to the statement, Adeniyi’s current tenure extension was originally set to expire on August 1, 2026.

The new extension, the Presidency said, is aimed at enabling him to consolidate the implementation of the National Single Window project and ensure a smooth and orderly transition within the Customs Service.

The Presidency said the extension reflects confidence in his leadership of the service and ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s trade facilitation architecture.

During the extension period, Adeniyi is expected to work with the Nigeria Customs Service Board to oversee the promotion of eligible officers to the rank of Comptroller of Customs, as well as the retirement of officers who have attained 60 years of age or completed 35 years in service.

Adeniyi, a graduate of Obafemi Awolowo University, joined the Customs Service in the late 1980s and rose through the ranks over the years.

He was promoted to Deputy Comptroller in 2012, Comptroller in 2017, Assistant Comptroller-General in 2020, and Acting Deputy Comptroller-General in January 2023, before his appointment as Comptroller-General by President Tinubu in June 2023.
