IGP Disu Honours Fallen Officers in Zamfara, Vows Sustained Offensive Against Banditry
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday paid a working visit to Zamfara State, where he joined police personnel, bereaved families and members of the public in observing the Islamic funeral prayer (Salat al-Janazah) for three police officers who were killed while on duty.
The visit formed part of efforts to honour the fallen officers and reinforce the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ongoing operations against banditry and other violent crimes in the state.
During the visit, the IGP also met with officers and men of the Zamfara State Police Command to commiserate with them over the loss of their colleagues and assess ongoing security operations across the state.
The police chief was received by senior government officials and security stakeholders, including the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar M. Nakwada, who represented the Zamfara State Governor during the funeral rites and related engagements.
Addressing officers at the command headquarters, Disu described the deceased officers as brave and dedicated personnel who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation while confronting criminal elements threatening peace and security in Zamfara.
He conveyed the condolences of the Force Management Team and the entire Nigeria Police Force to the families of the slain officers, assuring them that their sacrifices would remain honoured and remembered.
According to the IGP, the loss of the officers, though painful, would further strengthen the resolve of the police to intensify operations against banditry, kidnapping and other violent crimes.
He urged officers to remain focused, resilient and professional in the discharge of their duties, stressing that criminal groups would not be allowed to undermine the determination of security agencies to restore lasting peace in the state.
Disu also commended the Zamfara State Police Command for its recent operational achievements, including the arrest of criminal suspects, recovery of explosives and other dangerous materials, rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of stolen motorcycles and successful operations against armed bandits.
He noted that the successes recorded by the command reflected the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing, operational dedication and collaboration among security agencies in tackling security challenges.
The IGP further assured personnel of continued efforts by police authorities to improve operational capacity, logistics and welfare, as well as provide the resources required for effective policing.
He emphasized the importance of intelligence gathering, community partnership and sustained inter-agency cooperation in addressing banditry and other forms of criminality.
Disu charged officers and men of the command to remain disciplined, steadfast and committed to their constitutional responsibilities, adding that the greatest tribute to the fallen officers would be the continued pursuit of peace, security and justice for the people of Zamfara State.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to supporting its personnel and strengthening ongoing efforts to protect lives and property, combat violent crime and enhance public safety across the country.
