IGP Charges Investigators on Data-Driven Investigation
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed investigators and heads of investigative units across Nigeria to prioritise accurate capture and effective management of suspects’ information as part of efforts to deepen intelligence-led policing and modernise criminal investigations.
The directive was issued on Tuesday during the opening session of a one-day Crime and Incident Database Impact Sensitization Workshop organised by the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The workshop focused on strengthening compliance with the suspects’ information capturing process under the Nigeria Police Force Crime and Incident Database (NPF-ICD) Centre Project, a system designed to enhance crime analysis, improve intelligence gathering, support evidence-based investigations, and strengthen inter-agency cooperation.
Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General stressed that contemporary policing increasingly depends on timely, accurate, and actionable data, noting that traditional investigative methods alone are no longer sufficient to address the complexity of modern crime.
He explained that the Crime and Incident Database Centre represents a critical national security asset capable of improving investigative efficiency, tracking criminal patterns, identifying repeat offenders, linking related cases across jurisdictions, and supporting strategic decision-making within the Force.
The IGP reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the ongoing digital transformation of policing operations, with emphasis on technology adoption, innovation, and intelligence-led strategies. He therefore urged strict compliance with established procedures for capturing suspects’ information across all police formations nationwide.
He also encouraged participants at the workshop to engage critically with the process and contribute practical recommendations aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening the Force’s overall crime management framework.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to leveraging technology and data-driven systems to enhance service delivery, improve public safety outcomes, and build a more professional and accountable policing institution.
