The Ibom Deep Sea Port Project has recorded a major boost following a high-level technical engagement between Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, and project partners in Paris, France.
The meeting, held on Friday brought together officials of the Akwa Ibom State Government and representatives of Africa Global Logistics (AGL) Group to review progress on the proposed port project and chart a path towards implementation.
A key focus of the session was the Technical Feasibility Report recently submitted by Worley Parsons. Participants examined critical issues relating to investment, project execution, operational sustainability and timelines for delivery.
Governor Eno reaffirmed the commitment of the Akwa Ibom State Government and its partners to the successful realisation of the project, stressing the need to move swiftly from the planning stage to execution.
During the discussions, the governor called for clearly defined milestones, actionable next steps and realistic timelines to accelerate the delivery of the strategic maritime infrastructure.
The Akwa Ibom State Government and prospective investors also reiterated their shared commitment to advancing the Deep Sea Port initiative, which is expected to serve as a major catalyst for economic growth and industrial development.
The project is envisioned as a flagship Blue Economy initiative with the potential to position Akwa Ibom as a leading maritime, logistics and trade hub in the Gulf of Guinea.
In a statement, the Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said the governor was accompanied by the Chairman of the Technical Committee on the Ibom Deep Sea Port Project and former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Mrs. Mfon Usoro; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Commissioner for Science and Digital Economy, Dr. Frank Ekpeyong; Managing Director of Hensek Integrated, Engr. Uwem Okoko; and other members of the state delegation.
The engagement is expected to further strengthen investor confidence in the project and accelerate efforts to transform Akwa Ibom into a strategic gateway for regional and international maritime commerce.
