Gunmen kill two policemen in Anambra
A clash between a gang of gunmen and officers or a police force has led to the death of two policemen in Anambra State.
The armed men were said to have ambushed the policemen in a patrol van and opened fired gunshots the bodies of the security agency men on the road after which they fled.
Witnesses of the incident which happened in the night hours of nurse yesterday along the Awa-Ndiukwuenu-Ufuma Road, said that it has shaken the residents who had enjoyed months of relative peace following security crackdowns.
A tricycle operator who narrowly escaped the attack recounted on anonymity: “After some time, I came out of the bush and retrieved my Keke and continued my journey, then I got to the spot where the thing happened.
“Two policemen were lying on the road here, and their police van is parked by the roadside.” He added that one officer appeared to still be alive and urged authorities to intervene.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued regarding the deadly incident.
