The family of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar has disputed the Katsina State Government’s claim that the former Director of Defence Information died from complications related to diabetes.
Isyaka Rabe, one of the late general’s sons, said reports linking his father’s death to diabetes were not accurate.
He made the statement during an interview with Deutsche Welle, where he questioned the official explanation surrounding his father’s death.
Family suspects another cause
Isyaka said the family does not believe diabetes was responsible for his father’s death.
According to him, some people have suggested other possible causes, including a snake bite, based on a video reportedly released during the period of his father’s captivity.
However, he noted that the actual circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear.
He said the family believes his father may have suffered a heart-related issue, adding that only God knows the full details.
Son says recovery of body remains unclear
Speaking about how the family received the late general’s remains, Isyaka said he was not aware of the details surrounding the recovery.
He explained that questions about the situation should be directed to the government.
He also described his father as a hero who served the country.
Wife still in captivity, family saysIsyaka further revealed that his mother, who was abducted alongside the retired general, is still being held by their abductors.
He dismissed reports circulating online that she had been released, saying the information was incorrect.
The late Major-General Rabe Abubakar was abducted alongside his wife while travelling through Katsina State before his death was later confirmed.
