Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
Lawal said that he could not remain in a party that endorsed Atiku, alleging that the ADC presidential primary results were manipulated to favour the aspirant, as well as insisting that he would not be part of what he described as the former vice president’s rigging machine in the 2027 presidential election.
The former SGF, in Abuja on Monday, maintained that the election process lacked credibility and fairness.
“Atiku is incompetent and a tribal, religious bigot who shouldn’t come close to the presidential office,” Lawal stated.
“Tinubu would be a better president than him.”
His resignation underscores growing divisions within the ADC as political alignments intensify ahead of the 2027 polls and also signals discontent among party stakeholders over the conduct of the primaries and the choice of candidate.
